Private security officers responded to two robberies and an attempted robbery in the space of five hours.

TWO armed gangs struck on three occasions on Sunday evening (April 13) in two robberies and an attempted robbery in the Greenwood Park, Avoca and Effingham Heights areas.

Swift Private Security responded to three incidents on Hyacinth Road, Manjee Place and Havelock Road at 18:00, 21:30 and 22:26 respectively.

“In the first incident we were alerted to an armed robbery in progress. Once on scene our officers were informed that three suspects, traveling in a white VW Polo sedan, had robbed two residents of their cellphones while they were standing outside their home. Thankfully, the victims sustained no physical injuries but were left shaken and traumatised.

“In the second incident in the Effingham Heights area, we responded to an attempted armed robbery on Manjee Place. It is believed the same suspects in the white Polo approached a community security guard from another company. The suspects allegedly attempted to force the officer into their vehicle and tried to steal his phone. A scuffle ensued, during which the victim was struck on the head with a firearm,” he said.

Sooklall added the officer was treated on site, and transported to hospital.

The third incident involved suspects driving a white Renault Triber.
