Teenager arrested after robbery of e-hailing driver in Kenville

Security officers recovered a set of car keys taken in the robbery and two other suspects remain at large.

A 16-YEAR-OLD was arrested after he and two others allegedly robbed an e-hailing driver of several items, including his cellphone, on Columbia Road in the Kenville area at about 20:35 on Monday (July 28).

According to Marshall Security’s spokesperson Tyron Powell a detailed description of the suspect was given to officers on patrol.

“Our officers were initially flagged down by an officer from another private security company explaining the situation.  We then proceeded to the location of the driver, who provided a detailed description of the suspects involved in the robbery.

“A few minutes later, they spotted three suspects matching the descriptions given on Rosary Road. As we approached, the suspects fled in different directions. One suspect jumped into the premises of a complex on Rosary Road. While officers were searching the complex, one suspect was apprehended. The remaining suspects, unfortunately, managed to evade arrest after an extensive search,” he said.

The e-hailing driver positively identified the teenager as one of the three who had robbed him at knifepoint, stealing his cellphone, car keys, and cash.

“An eyewitness reported seeing the suspects flee and discard a car key, which was later recovered by our officers and returned to the driver. The suspect, a 16-year-old, was transported to the station, and a case of robbery has been opened,” he said.
