12-year-old killed in M41 crash

The young passenger was ejected from the vehicle and was declared deceased on scene by paramedics.

A 12-YEAR-OLD has died after a single vehicle accident on the M41 near Mount Edgecombe on Tuesday morning (September 16).

The incident occurred near the N2 south on-ramp involving a vehicle with a family of four.

Spokesperson for KZN VIP Paramedics, Gareth Naidoo, said medical teams from various emergency services responded to the accident.

“First responders found a single vehicle that had overturned. Sadly, a young passenger was ejected from the vehicle and was declared deceased on scene by KZN VIP paramedics. Three other occupants sustained injuries and were stabilised before being transported to a medical facility for further care,” he said.

Reaction Unit SA spokesperson Prem Balram said the driver of the vehicle swerved to avoid a metal drum on the yellow line.

“It was alleged that the driver attempted to avoid a metal drum filled with soil, which had been placed on the yellow line, when the incident occurred. An attempt was made to stop the vehicle, but manoeuvring proved impossible due to the presence of another vehicle on the right,” he said.
