New season brings new promise for Dolphins women

As coach of the Dolphins ladies team, Angelique Taai is using her wealth of experience and knowledge to impart lessons to the next generation of players.

AS the Hollywoodbets Dolphins ladies get their Hollywoodbets Pro 50 and Hollywoodbets Pro 20 campaigns underway, head coach Angelique Taai has reflected on the growth in women’s cricket.

Taai has also given insight into how the professionalisation of the women’s domestic league has paved the way for future generations to come through.

Earlier this year, the Musgrave resident donned the green and gold as the bowling coach for the SA U19 women’s team at the U19 World Cup.

“I often get emotional seeing the the future generations of cricket blossom in front for me. It actually gives me goosebumps. When we started this journey some of the players were in school, and now they are professional cricketers; it is just an incredible thing to witness. As a coach, my job is to give them the best chance possible and support them in order for them to get to the next level.

“There are a lot more resources available to the players now, which again is amazing. Something we talk about often is how everything is in their hands because they know that every opportunity they get, they have to make the most of it. Working behind the scenes with this group of players is a privilege and an honour because you see the work the players are putting in. The support staff are also doing everything possible to ensure the players are where they need to be at. It is exciting times ahead for the domestic game and for the team,” she said.

She added she hopes the Durban faithful will come and support the team in all their home games at Kingsmead this season.
