The suspects threatened the driver, forcibly removed him from the vehicle, and fled the scene in the hijacked car.
“Swift Private Security’s Control Centre received a WhatsApp alert from a local security group just minutes after the incident occurred,” said Sanveer Sooklall, spokesperson for Swift Private Security.
“Our response teams were immediately dispatched, and a vehicle description was circulated to all patrol units in the area.”
Swift officers initiated a rapid search operation, and the hijacked vehicle was located shortly thereafter, abandoned on the Havelock Grounds.
“Our officers quickly secured the scene and awaited the arrival of the Greenwood Park SAPS, who took over the investigation and processing of the vehicle,” Sooklall added.
“Unfortunately, no suspects were located.”
This marks the second hijacking attended to by Swift Private Security in less than 12 hours in the northern Durban region. On Sunday evening around 18.00, a separate hijacking occurred on Gokul Road in Avoca.
In that incident, five armed suspects ambushed a motorist driving a Mercedes-Benz. During the altercation, a visitor to the residence was stabbed in the leg before the suspects fled with the vehicle.
“Despite an extensive area search by our teams, the stolen vehicle in the Avoca incident could not be located,” Sooklall said.
Swift Private Security has urged residents in the area to remain alert and report any suspicious persons or vehicles immediately.
“We commend the residents for reporting both incidents without delay and applaud our officers for their swift and professional response,” Sooklall said.
