Virginia Prep learners reflect on cricket tournament

Thomas Reeves and Luke Dreyer took part in the Shaun Pollock Cricket Festival held at Northwood School.

VIRGINIA Preparatory School learners Thomas Reeves and Luke Dreyer recently played at the Shaun Pollock Cricket Festival.

The Grade Seven learners, both of whom are all-rounders, were selected to represent Northwood’s U14 invitational team.

Luke and Thomas, who also play for the school’s first team, said they enjoyed the experience.

The invitational team played a number of games against teams from other provinces, including South African College Junior School and Queen’s College Boys’ High School.

“It was a great experience. I do feel I could have improved on my bowling and batting but overall this was a great way to test myself. The festival also helped me get used to the pace I will be facing next year in high school,” Luke said.

For fellow learner Thomas, the feelings were similar.

“It’s always good to learn and play against the different teams from around the country. I do feel as a player you benefit because it helps you develop your skills and building teamwork,” Thomas said.

They will now travel to the Midlands for an upcoming school cricket tour and will play Cowan House Preparatory School, Clifton Notties Preparatory School and Treverton.

“We hope to help our school do their best and hopefully win all the games. We are a strong unit and are looking forward to the challenge ahead,” Luke said.

The duo both have aspirations to represent their province in the sport.
