Metro Police welcome engagement in Durban North

Metro Police’s Durban North outreach helped residents manage traffic fines and promoted road safety ahead of the festive season

DURBAN’S Metro Police Service has hailed this weekend’s outreach initiative in Durban North as a success.

On Saturday, residents were able to check for outstanding traffic fines and make payments at the engagement with Metro Police officials at Pick n Pay Hyper by the Sea.

Outside of making payments, residents were also able to submit representations or queries, update contact details, arrange payment plans and learn more about traffic laws and road safety.

“As the festive season approaches, Metro Police will be intensifying visibility by conducting roadblocks and various operations, including warrant of arrest operations, to ensure driver compliance and safer roads for everyone. It is for that reason that we held the initiative to assist residents with all their traffic-related matters,” explained metro police spokesperson Colonel Boysie Zungu. “We appreciate everyone who took the time to visit and make use of this initiative; together we are promoting compliance, responsibility, and safer roads for all road users in eThekwini.”

Zungu said there are a number of outreach activations planned for different areas.

Meanwhile, Metro has reminded motorists that it has officially begun sending out SMS notifications to individuals with outstanding traffic fines.

The message reads as follows: “Dear Motorist, you have outstanding Traffic Fines, for enquiries, please contact Durban Metro Police on 031 311 2862/3 or email Traffic.Fines@durban.gov.za.”

Zungu added these messages are legitimate and sent directly by the Municipality.
