Two killed in separate incidents in North Durban
A security officer and a 14-year-old learner were killed in separate road incidents near the N2 and R102 in Durban this week.
The article has been amended to state that incident involving the security guard occurred on Sunday night (November 16) and not Monday night as initially reported.
A SECURITY officer was killed in an incident near the N2 freeway on Monday night (November 16).
The man was struck by a vehicle on the freeway near the construction zone between Sibaya and uMdloti.
KZN VIP spokesperson Gareth Naidoo said paramedics arrived on scene and found the security officer unresponsive.
“Despite immediate assessment, the officer showed no signs of life and was declared deceased on scene. Preliminary information indicates that a vehicle travelling through the construction area struck the officer,” he said.

Naidoo extended his condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased.
In a separate incident on Tuesday morning (November 18), a learner was struck by a vehicle on the southbound lane of the R102 near Cornubia.
Paramedics from Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) responded to the incident involving the 14-year-old, who was a Grade Seven learner at Solomon Mahlangu Primary School in Cornubia.
“He was reportedly attempting to cross the R102 when he was knocked down … The child sustained severe head injuries, blunt force trauma to the chest, and a fracture to the left knee. He was declared deceased on the scene. The driver was not injured during the incident,” RUSA spokesperson Prem Balram said.
