Cycle Sunday initiative returns for December
The mass participation cycle event is non-timed and is open to families, casual riders, and seasoned cyclists.
FOR the second time this year the M4 Ruth First Highway will be closed to traffic from Moses Mabhida Stadium to Portland Drive for the Cycle Sunday initiative on Sunday, December 14.
The event was first held in October and saw cyclists of all ages and skill levels enjoy a safe, traffic-free ride on the M4.
The event is presented by Cycle Lab and Peschl Sports, owned by local resident Shaun Peschl.

He has invited locals, tourists, and holidaymakers to experience Durban’s golden coastline running from 05:00 to 09:00. The event offers a relaxed, non-competitive ride perfect for every cyclist from kids and first-timers to recreational riders, weekend warriors, and seasoned cyclists.
“This is Durban at its best during summer. Sunshine, ocean views, families outdoors, and communities coming together,” Peschl said. “The first Cycle Sunday exceeded our expectations, showing us that South Africans want safe, accessible spaces to cycle. We’re excited to bring it back for the holidays and give residents and visitors something truly special to enjoy.”
Cycle Sunday is helping build a strong culture of safe cycling. It is a green, community-driven movement where riders from all walks of life come together to celebrate a much-loved sport made safer and more accessible for everyone.
Cycle Sunday also has a dedicated Marvel Kids Bike Festival at the Moses Mabhida Stadium Lawn which will keep little ones entertained with fun kids’ cycling courses, music and holiday-themed entertainment, food vendors, and a Marvel Bike Race for children aged 12 and under (20-inch bikes or smaller).
