Metro FM awards return to Durban
The awards, which recognise and reward contributions to the South African music industry, will return to Durban.
DURBAN will be the host city for the Metro FM Music awards for the next three years starting with the 2026 edition.
The move was announced at a media launch held at The Oyster Box in uMhlanga on Thursday evening.
For the last three years (2023-2025) Mpumalanga has hosted the awards, which recognise and reward outstanding contributions to the South African music industry, but now will return to Durban.

Durban Mayor Cyril Xaba welcomed the news.
“Durban is proud to host the Metro FM Music Awards for the next three years. This event highlights our city as a hub of creativity and culture, positioning us as an ideal tourism and events destination.”
SABC Group Executive for Radio, Nada Wotshela echoed those sentiments.
“We’re thrilled to bring the Metro FM Music Awards back to South Africa’s favourite playground, Durban in 2026. We’re excited to celebrate South African music talent in eThekwini, a city known for its exceptional music and entertainment scene, as well as a rich cultural tapestry.”
Entries are open on the Metro FM websites, and eligible works must have been released between February 28, 2025 and February 28, 2026.
