Temporary lane closures on uMngeni Interchange

The temporary lane closures will be done sequentially and will affect both the on-ramps and off-ramps of the interchange.

THERE will be several temporary lane closures on the uMngeni Interchange starting from Thursday, March 12, until April 15.

This is to allow the South African National Roads Agency SOC Ltd (SANRAL) to replace the bridge parapets at the uMngeni Interchange, which forms part of Phase 1 of the construction programme.

The works will also involve the demolition and replacement of the median barriers separating the northbound and southbound lanes on the N2.

Both the N2 northbound on-ramp from the N2 and the N2 southbound on-ramp from Inanda Road will be affected and the closures will occur sequentially.

“As part of the bridge repair works, several temporary lane closures will be implemented at the interchange and on its immediate feeder roads within the defined construction area. These closures will occur at different stages to enable essential maintenance activities aimed at preserving and improving the region’s road infrastructure,” explained Serisha Sukraj, SANRAL KwaZulu-Natal Project Manager.

Lane Closures (Sequentially)

  • Northbound N2 off-ramp: Temporary lane closures will occur on the flyover from Springfield Park, as well as on the N2 glide-on onto the off-ramp, along the bridge over the uMngeni River and beyond the bridge.
  • Southbound N2 on-ramp from Inanda Road: Temporary lane closures will occur on the approach to the bridge over the uMngeni River, along the bridge, and beyond the bridge.
  • Southbound fast lane on the N2: Temporary lane closures will take place along the southbound fast lanes of the N2.
  • Northbound fast lane on the N2: Temporary lane closures will take place along the northbound fast lanes of the N2.
