Suspect arrested after early morning theft in Briardene

The suspect was handed over to Greenwood Park SAPS, who attended the scene and transported him, along with the stolen items, for further investigation and processing.

A man was arrested following a theft in Briardene in the early hours of the morning today (March 24).

At approximately 05:15, a Marshall Security armed response officer conducting routine patrols along Chris Hani Road observed two men carrying heavy objects and acting suspiciously as they entered Stanhope Place.

The officer maintained constant observation and requested backup, with additional Marshall Security armed response officers dispatched to the scene.

As officers approached, one of the suspects dropped the item he was carrying and fled towards a nearby informal settlement. The second suspect was apprehended.

During questioning, the suspect admitted that he and his accomplice had cut a hole in a fence to gain entry to a property, where they stole vehicle parts from a motor spares business on Sea Cow Lake Road, which is not a Marshall Security client.

Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell said the incident underscores the importance of vigilance and proactive policing.

“This incident highlights the importance of proactive patrols, vigilance, and rapid response in identifying suspicious activity and preventing further criminal losses, while reinforcing the role of co-ordinated efforts between security teams and SAPS in ensuring suspects are apprehended and held accountable,” he said.

The business owner, who was unaware of the theft at the time, was contacted and positively identified the stolen items, indicating a desire to press charges.
