Authorities carry out inspections at north Durban businesses

One business was issued several fines for contravening business licence conditions and unlawful food preparation.

SEVERAL businesses were inspected in Durban North and uMhlanga last week in a multi-agency operation involving the Durban Metro Police Service and various departments.

The Health Department, eThekwini’s Business Licensing Unit, and Fire Department, conducted the joint compliance operation targeting the businesses.

Also present were Durban North SAPS officers and members from the Durban North CPF.

“At one of the establishments, fines were issued for contravening business licence conditions by cooking on the premises (R1 000), unlawful food preparation (R5 000), and failure to have a fire blanket on site (R5 000),” read a Metro Police statement.

“During the operation, serious non-compliance was identified, including the sale of expired food and failure to adhere to municipal health, safety, and business licensing regulations.”

Businesses are urged to comply with all applicable regulations to avoid penalties or further action.
