The incident occurred on March 3 at about 16.00, when a pedestrian was struck and killed at the corner of Adelaide Tambo Drive and Mackeurtan Avenue.
The driver involved in the collision was arrested later that same evening after absconding from the scene. He was charged with culpable homicide and fleeing the scene of an accident and appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on March 5.
“Durban North SAPS is calling on members of the public who may have witnessed the incident to come forward. Officials are particularly interested in speaking to anyone who saw events leading up to the crash, witnessed the collision itself and observed what happened immediately afterward,” said Durban North CPF spokesperson, Daryl Oliver.
Witnesses are encouraged to submit sworn statements or provide any video footage that could assist investigators.
Oliver emphasised that public co-operation could help ensure justice for the victim and her family. Assistance is also available for those who may need help preparing formal statements.
