Durban North Library temporarily closes its doors
The library, based at Kensington Square Shopping Centre, will be closed until Monday, June 1 while renovations for a new space continue.
THE Durban North Library will temporarily close its doors for the next six weeks for renovations to take place for its new space within the Kensington Square shopping centre.
Head librarian Veni Reddy said the library would be closed from Monday, April 13 until Monday, June 1.
“We want to reassure residents that we aren’t going anywhere and we are simply moving from one side of the mall to the other. While the renovations within the new space are being done, we encourage residents to use neighbouring libraries like Glenashley and La Lucia,” she explained.

The news comes at a time when several libraries have been closed across Durban, including most recently, the Musgrave Library.
Meanwhile, Reddy has also given residents and library users an update on what to do with books they’ve borrowed before the closure.
“They can either drop it off via the drop slot or they can keep the books and return them once we reopen. There will be no accumulation of fines. Once the new space is renovated we look forward to welcoming everyone back,” she said.
Reddy added the library would welcome any book donations, particularly fiction, to help them increase their offerings to all who use the space.
