Tattoo fundraiser raises thousands for Highway Hospice

In all R35 280 was raised for Highway Hospice that provides palliative care for life-limiting illnesses and support to terminally ill patients.

A DURBAN North tattoo studio has raised R17 640 for Highway Hospice.

During the month of June, Fine Line Tattoo & Piercing nominated the NPO that provides palliative care for life-limiting illnesses as well as emotional, and social support to terminally ill patients, for its charity initiative.

Owners of the tattoo studio, Etienne Louw and Sheldon Shaw, explained that for the past nine years they’ve raised funds for charities nominated by their supporters.

Incredibly, Shaw, who is also a member of the Round Table of Durban No. 2, has matched the funds raised to increase the total raised to R35 280 for Highway Hospice.

“We have always believed that business should be about more than just profit,” said Louw. “This year we wanted to support an organisation that touches so many lives in our community through compassion, care, and dignity and that is what Highway Hospice does.”

Lisette Abell, head of fundraising at the hospice, expressed her delight with the fundraiser.

“We are so appreciative is an understatement. I cannot express enough how excited and grateful we are for Etienne and Sheldon’s generosity and choosing The Highway Hospice for your fundraising campaign this year. They’ve gone above and beyond and these funds couldn’t come at a better time as we are reopening the In Patient Unit towards the last quarter of the year,” he said.
