Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell said the security company received information at about 07:45 via a Crime Alert WhatsApp group from a member of the public who reported seeing an unknown man climb down from the roof of a house in Thirlmere Place before forcing open an upstairs window to gain entry.
Marshall Security Armed Response officers were immediately dispatched to the property.
“During the search, officers found several copper pipes inside an outbuilding. While inspecting one of the rooms, they noticed a door would not close properly. Further investigation revealed the suspect hiding behind the door, and he was immediately apprehended,” said Powell.
According to Powell, the suspect admitted to entering the property by jumping over the front boundary wall before climbing onto the roof using a downpipe. He allegedly gained access through an upstairs window and removed several copper pipes from a bathroom inside the house.
Durban North SAPS were called to the scene and arrested the suspect. He was taken to the Durban North police station for further investigation and processing, where a case of house break-in and theft was opened.
