Rox spread kindness with sandwich drive
The lifesaving club said this was an opportunity for their members to work together and help the most vulnerable in society.
THE Umhlanga Rocks Surf Lifesaving Club (Rox) made 350 sandwiches on Saturday (July 18) as part of their Mandela Day efforts to help the residents of the Malacca Road Informal Settlement.
This comes after a fire ripped through the upper half of the settlement almost a fortnight ago, leaving one person dead and more than 80 residents homeless.
While several Mandela Day events were held on the day to inspire positive change, the lifesaving club said this was an opportunity for their members to work together and help the most vulnerable in society.

“We are big on community within our club and the idea was to give back to the residents of the settlement after the recent fire. The 350 sandwiches were given to the PR ward councillor for Ward 110, Rowena Bosman, who distributed them to the community,” explained Rox member Keran Coetzer.
“We are so proud of our Rox family who always step up. I would like to thank everyone who helped out on Saturday and gave up their time. Generally schools host different activities but because this Mandela Day fell during the holidays we also had the support of our young lifersavers and nippers,” she said.
