THE DP World Lions held their nerve to beat the Hollywoodbets Dolphins by eight runs in their opening game of the YesPlay Pro20 Cup at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium on Sunday afternoon (September 27).

The Lions, who won the toss, elected to bat first and got off to a flyer as openers Zubayr Hamza (66 off 38 balls) and Reeza Hendricks (50 off 35 balls) laid the platform.

The visitors continued to build momentum throughout their innings with 30+ scores from Rassie van der Dussen and Connor Esterhuizen.

The Lions added 69 runs in the final five overs to post a formidable score of 202/4.

In reply, the Dolphins made a flying start to their chase, thanks mainly to Khaya Zondo who smashed 37 from 19 balls.

Within 10 overs the Dolphins had lost three wickets, however, Jason Smith and Sean Gilson then produced a remarkable recovery.

Smith anchored the chase with a half century (66 off 44 balls) while Gilson hit three boundaries and a six (38 off 27 balls).

Despite the Dolphins’ recovery, they could only reach 194/6 in their 20 overs.
