Durban women invited to step out in nature

Women across Durban are invited to celebrate Women’s Month through a guided nature walk and a 5km Colour Run.

WOMEN across Durban are invited to celebrate Women’s Month by prioritising their health, well-being and personal safety through a series of activities designed to encourage women to get active, connect with others and enjoy the outdoors.

As part of the Women’s Month programme, the Recreation and Parks Directorate will host a guided walk at Beachwood Mangroves Nature Reserve on 20 August, from 09:00 to 11:00.

The guided walk will give participants an opportunity to experience the natural beauty of the unique estuarine sanctuary, which is renowned for its thriving mangrove forests, diverse birdlife and scenic boardwalk.

The activity will also focus on gender-based violence (GBV) awareness, creating an opportunity for women to engage around an important issue while enjoying the benefits of spending time in nature.

The walk is open to women aged 18 and above, and bookings are essential as spaces are limited.

The Women’s Month celebrations will continue on August 22, when eThekwini Sport Development and Recreation hosts a Women in Sports Colour Run at Bay of Plenty.

The 5km fun run from 07:00 to 12:30 will provide women with an opportunity to get active, have fun and prioritise self-care and a healthy lifestyle. Entry to the event is free, making it an ideal opportunity for women to come together and celebrate through sport.

The two activities form part of the City’s efforts to encourage women to prioritise their physical and emotional well-being while creating spaces for connection, awareness and participation.

Women are encouraged to take part in these activities and make Women’s Month a time to invest in themselves, embrace healthy lifestyles and build stronger connections within their communities.
