For Samantha Toweel-Moore, founder of Growing Champions, Christmas is about much more than gifts or festivities; it is a season of joy, love, giving, and shared humanity.
“To me,” she said, “the Christmas season is a time of hope, kindness, and generosity. It’s an opportunity for us to spread love, compassion, and warmth to those around us. As we celebrate the spirit of Christmas, I’m reminded of the importance of community, joy, and kindness.”

Toweel-Moore typically celebrates the holidays by gathering with her family for a big dinner, exchanging gifts, and reflecting on the past year. “It’s a special time to reconnect, relax, and create new memories with the people who matter most.” These moments, she added, are enhanced by simple traditions that she looks forward to each year.

Some of her most cherished memories involve her family. “Being able to make my 79-year-old grandmother smile through the most difficult time, and just being around family – especially when Christmas is the only time we see each other – has always been meaningful.”

Her vision for the community is for them to come together by wrapping others with love, especially those who do not have the means or family to enjoy Christmas. “Let’s spread kindness and make a positive impact in our neighbourhoods.”

Acts of generosity this year have inspired her deeply. One example she highlighted was the dedication of community volunteers who joined Growing Champions’ soup kitchen project to feed those in need. “Seeing our volunteers give their time and energy to help others has been incredibly moving.”
