Fairland CPF encourages community spirit and vigilance during busy festive period

Fairland CPF’s Riaz Peerbhai shares a festive message of unity, gratitude, and safety, urging residents to support one another, stay vigilant, and embrace the spirit of ubuntu throughout the holiday season.

The Fairland Community Policing Forum (CPF) has shared a heartfelt holiday message, reflecting on the unity and resilience that continue to define the neighbourhood. Public relations officer Riaz Peerbhai says the festive season is more than a break in routine; it is a reminder of the bonds that make Fairland stronger, safer, and more connected.

“For me, this time of year represents unity, warmth, and reflection,” Peerbhai said. “It’s a moment when families reconnect, neighbours look out for one another, and we collectively pause to appreciate the blessings we often overlook.”

He believes the holidays offer Fairland more than rest. They offer an opportunity to reinforce the community spirit that underpins local safety initiatives. From charity drives to informal street gatherings, the season’s traditions highlight Fairland’s diversity and shared values.

Peerbhai extended a message of gratitude to residents, volunteers, and patrollers, whose vigilance and co-operation have strengthened safety efforts throughout the year. “We are deeply grateful for our volunteers, our patrollers, and every resident who reports incidents or looks out for one another.” His hope for the season is simple: That every home experiences peace, joy, and safety.

One memory, he notes, has stayed with him over the years – witnessing residents unite during a holiday outreach programme, donating food, clothing, and their time to families in need. It was, he says, a living example of ubuntu, and a reminder that Fairland’s strength lies in collective compassion.

This festive season, Peerbhai hopes to see that spirit rise once again. Whether checking in on the elderly, keeping an eye on vulnerable neighbours, or reporting suspicious activity, he believes even the smallest gestures can shape a safer, warmer community.

He also offered a special message to the youth of Fairland, calling them the heartbeat and the future of our community. Peerbhai encouraged young people to enjoy the holiday period responsibly, reflect on their goals, and remain a positive influence among their peers.

As many prepare to travel, he urged residents to do so safely and respectfully, carrying the spirit of care with them wherever they go. “May these holidays bring harmony to our streets, joy to our homes, and hope to every member of the Fairland community.”
