Help make Marang House’s 2026 wish list come true

The home shares what it is in need of for the new year.

Marang house, a Roosevelt Park-based home that takes in children faced with serious health conditions and acts as legal guardian for them, needs your help to make 2026 a great year, and for them to continue the work they do.

Wishlist for 2026

• School supplies: Stationery for the children and school uniforms (tracksuits, shoes/takkies) purchased at PEP and Ackermans, as many of the children’s parents cannot afford them.

Preferably, a gift voucher for Cresta Shopping Centre, as Salome Parkies, matron at the home, arranges the uniforms, and knows the children’s sizes and needs, as many of the children are much smaller in size due to their health conditions.

• A new, larger combi: One that can accommodate up to 17 children, ensuring safe transport for all the children.

• Volunteers and donors: They welcome ongoing support. Donations can also be made through their BackaBuddy profile. The home is extremely grateful to everyone who donates groceries, food, cleaning materials, and toiletries on a regular basis. These items are essential

for the daily running of Marang House.

• They are particularly in need of ongoing support for toilet paper, bread and milk, gas for the geyser, petrol for their vehicle, and fresh vegetables, such as potatoes, onions, tomatoes, spinach, and cabbage. Occasionally, the children are also treated to a special meal from fast-food outlets, like Nando’s or KFC, with careful attention to their dietary requirements.

Looking ahead: 2026 and beyond

• Marang House currently does not own the property they operate from, so, their long-term dream is to secure a permanent home close to Nelson Mandela and Charlotte Maxeke hospitals, ensuring stability and comfort for all the children.

• They also need a physiotherapist to work with the children in the afternoons or over weekends.

• Volunteers to assist with homework and play activities.

• Backup power solutions (generator or solar) to keep the home safe and warm during power outages, particularly for children who require oxygen.

Every contribution, big or small, helps keep the heart of Marang House beating, and provides a safe, loving home for children who need it most.
