NKZN team ends rugby week with crushing victory

On the last day of the tournament, the Natal team literally played the frost off the field

The Northern Natal under 19 team – comprising players from Vryheid Landbou, Vryheid High School, Hoërskool Pionier, Pongola Academy, Dundee High School, Ferrum High School and Ladysmith – competed in the VKB Rugby Week in Reitz last week.
The cold weather had the team struggling and with very little practice as a team, they took on the Vrystaat Arende on the Monday. At the start of the game, it seemed as if the Natal team might just pull through and keep their opponents at bay, but sadly, as the game progressed, the Arende switched into fifth gear and ended the game with a score of 12-31 in their favour. The Arende ended second in the tournament, only having to bow before the Blue Bulls in a very physical game.
On the second day, the Natal team wanted to make up for the previous day’s loss and they geared up for the Griffons. This was a game of ‘who has the fastest backline’ and unfortunately, the Griffons’ skills in this department could not be matched. They won the game 5-34.
On the last day of the tournament, the Natal team literally played the frost off the field when they had to face the Diamonds as early as 08:00. The team seemed ‘lazy’ at first, but when the whistle blew, it was like a steam train running down a track. The team crushed the Diamonds with a score of 64-0. The Supersport Schools commentator mentioned that if the Natal team played every match like that, the scoreboards in the other games would definitely have been different and in the Natal team’s favour. The coach of the Diamonds stopped the game before the end whistle and the Natal team ended the tour on a high note.
