Melanie does her bit for the environment

This local has a deep love for travel.

When it comes to recycling, Melanie van der Watt is a true iron woman.
Born in Durban and raised in Hillbrow, Melanie has seen her fair share of what life has to give.

She began working for Iron Man Recycling in 2008, starting as a cashier and earning herself a promotion to Manager in 2016, a post she has held since.
Melanie is married to Aubrey and they have a 15-year-old son, Brian.
She said her favourite part of her job was the conversations with her customers, as through taking to them, you learned ‘what was in their hearts’.

“16 years ago, I met Aubrey through the People magazine and here I am today,” she laughed.
When asked about her hopes and dreams, Melanie simply said they were still the same as before she got married and had her son: to travel and help people.
“God does not call the equipped, He equips the called. I have always wanted to travel to where broken people are and help them in any way I could, and once my son is finished school, that dream will come true,” she concluded.
