Terror as lift traps men
The men were stuck for several hours, during which time they shouted and screamed for help.
Two men’s worst nightmare came true when they were trapped in an elevator on Wednesday.
They were attending a court case at the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court at the time.
One of them was disabled and hence had to use the lift to get to the first floor.
The men were stuck for several hours, during which time they shouted and screamed for help. They even attempted hitting the door in the hopes that they could force it open, but in vain.
They were eventually heard by a passerby, who called for assistance.
Elevator technicians were dispatched to rescue the trapped and clearly terrified men.
Sharaj paramedics were also called out.
When paramedics arrived, one of the men was already out of the elevator and the other was in the process of being removed by the technicians.
The two men were disorientated and weak due to the small, claustrophobic space in the elevator. They were stabilised and rushed to hospital to be treated for shock.
It is alleged that one of the occupants in the lift mistakenly pushed the safety gate off its railing, effectively trapping them.
