Four white rhinos were senselessly killed at the Weenen Game Reserve since Friday.
Ezemvelo KwaZulu-Natal Wildlife spokesperson Musa Mntambo confirmed yesterday morning that one rhino was killed on Friday, two on Sunday and the carcass of a fourth rhino was discovered in the reserve on Monday.
Officials believe that the rhino killed on Friday may have been darted but reports on the cause of death for the other three slain rhinos have not been finalised.
Mr Mntambo said that field rangers who were out on a foot patrol discovered the dead animals.
“We suspect that the rhinos were poached three or so days before we discovered them. The rhino we found on Monday still had its horns intact,” commented Mr Mntambo.
The latest rhino poaching incidents brings the number to 70 rhinos killed in KZN.
