A huge rut on the left lane of Hardwick Street just before the Murchison Street intersection, has caused concern among residents.
The rut has become a hazard for the many motorists who use this road to commute. Rutting has also formed along the left lane towards Majuba Mall, allowing water to collect in large puddles during rainfall.
The Director of Civil Services, Vusi Mboyana has confirmed that Hardwick Street will be completely revamped during the 2014/2015 financial year.
“The defects fall within our maintenance plan and the rut at the intersection of Hardwick and Murchison streets will be placed on our priority list,” said Mr Mboyana. “Repairs will be effected as soon as possible.”
The left lane of Hardwick Street towards Majuba Mall will have to be milled and resurfaced which the municipality anticipates will be done in the 2014/2015 financial year.
“Meanwhile, the maintenance team will carry out the necessary remedial work,” Mr Mboyana concluded.
