St Patrick’s Day Dinner at Talana Museum

The evening entertainment will consist of Irish music, jokes and the tale of St Patrick.

“On St Patrick’s Day everyone has a little Irish in them.”

St Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland and as usual there are many stories and legends about him. He was the first missionary to Ireland in the 5th century.

It is believed that he banished all the snakes out of Ireland by chasing them into the sea after they attacked him during a 40-day fast he was undertaking on top of a hill.

Legend credits St. Patrick with teaching the Irish about the doctrine of the Holy Trinity by showing people the shamrock, a three-leafed plant, using it to illustrate the Christian teaching of three persons in one God. For this reason, shamrocks are a central symbol for St Patrick’s Day.

St Patrick’s Day is celebrated on March 17  – the day of his death.
