Goats and cattle roaming the streets of Dundee have angered a local farmer who has voiced her concerns about the livestock, asking why the municipality is not doing anything about the problem.

McKenzie Street, Victoria Street and the Greytown road are some of the roads where locals should be more vigilant when driving, she says. Endumeni Traffic Chief Mandla Ndlovu advises locals to call the local pound master on 034 212 2222 to report any goats or cattle roaming the streets unattended, and they will be held at the pound.

The onus is on the owner to come forward to claim his/her animal/s, and after a minimum pound period their ownership falls away.
“If any damage should occur the owner is liable,” stated Mr Ndlovu.
The law on unattended farm animals and how long they should be kept at the pound is unclear, as attempts to contact the relevant department at Endumeni Municipality were unsuccessful.
