Local Inkosi off to America

Inkosi Mkhize will receive six weeks of professional training on Civic Leadership from one of the best universities in the world, the University of California

Inkosi Sbonelo Mkhize is one of only a few Africans to be selected to participate in a fellowship exchange programme in the United States.

As chairman of uThukela Traditional Leaders, the 36-year-old local inkosi (chief) from the KwaHlathikhulu area near Umtshezi will jet off on Friday to take part in US President Barack Obama’s Washington Fellowship Exchange Programme under the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI).

Inkosi Mkhize will receive six weeks of professional training on Civic Leadership from one of the best universities in the world, the University of California. The aim of the programme is for the Obama administration to invest in the next generation of African leaders who are between the ages of 25 and 35. Inkosi Mkhize was 35 years old at the time he applied.

Over 50,000 applications were received from Africa, making this a huge accomplishment for Sbonelo.
