Accusations of bewitchment were hurled at a distraught patient on Sunday, June 15 after she sought treatment for conjunctivitis at the Dundee Provincial Hospital.
This comment was made after a male nurse asked a patient seated in the queue at the outpatients department why she had not sought treatment earlier.
The patient, who does not wish to be named, responded by saying that the problem only started that afternoon.
To this she apparently received ‘a series of giggles and mumbles showing disbelief’, and was then told that she must have been ‘bewitched’. Disgruntled and humiliated, the patient approached the Courier as she felt that this behaviour was ‘unacceptable’. She also stated, “The comment made was rude and uncalled-for, especially from a medical practitioner.” According to Matron Teresa Mkhize the matter will undergo investigation.
