Tis’ the season to be cautious

Staying safe has become as much a part of Christmas as candy canes, tinsel and fairy lights.

The countdown to Christmas has officially begun!

Staying safe has become as much a part of Christmas as candy canes, tinsel and fairy lights.

Here are our top seven tips for staying safe during the festive season:

1. Much like women, burglars are attracted to all that glitters. Christmas lights strung through windows and doors make it easy for burglars to get a lay of the land. It’s easy access to the property and an even easier escape.

2. If you’re having the family over during the festive season, assign an adult to each baby or toddler. Active adult supervision prevents accidents.

3. If possible, avoid carrying cash with you when shopping. A quick glimpse of a buck or two is an incentive to rob you of your hard-earned cash and Christmas spirit.

3---

4. Festive season scams have become a common Christmas occurrence. If, for example, you want to donate money to a charity, verify its legitimacy before you break the bank.

4

5. As fascinating and colourful as they are, Christmas lights are a fire hazard. If you’re leaving the house, be sure to switch them off to prevent unnecessary damage to items that often cannot be replaced.

6. Don’t put your gifts on display. If your Christmas tree is visible from a distance, chances are the gifts tucked tightly under the tree are too. Out of sight, out of mind.

6

7. Lastly, if you’re travelling during the festive season, bear in mind that drunk drivers are everywhere. Don’t drink and drive. A celebration can quickly lead to devastation.

7---

Don’t let anyone steal Christmas from you and your family. Remember, there is no substitute for safety.
Merry Christmas!
