Update: Taxi hits cow on Harrismith road
The taxi driver sustained injuries to his legs and was trapped in the wreckage after the crash

A Toyota Quantum minibus taxi travelling along the Harrismith road in the early hours of Sunday morning hit a cow near the Peacetown turn-off.
There were no passengers in the taxi at the time, with the driver being alone in the vehicle. The taxi was heading towards Ladysmith at the time.
The driver sustained injuries to his legs and was trapped in the wreckage after the crash. However, before paramedics arrived, the injured driver was removed from the taxi by other people and also other taxi drivers who stopped to help. Onlookers used a large steel pole to push away the steering column that was pinning the driver in his seat. He was treated by paramedics and transported to hospital.
The cow was still alive after the accident and had to be shot by RTI officers due to injuries sustained from the impact. Opportunistic passersby stopped and started cutting up the dead animal at roadside, taking the meat home to eat.
SAPS, RTI, EMRS and ER24 responded to the scene. One lane was closed while clean-up operations were carried out.
