Police officer laid to rest
Police from Ladysmith, Bergville, Greytown and Ezakheni attended the State Funeral to pay their last respects to a fallen hero
Warrant Officer Bhekizitha Moses Dube (43) was laid to rest at a State Funeral on Saturday in Ekuvukeni. The Ladysmith policeman lost his life in a tragic accident on the Bergville road on Monday last week when the bakkie he was travelling in collided with a truck.
WO Dube started his career with the SAPS back in 1995 and had put in 20 years of service with the State at the time of his demise. He started at Dundee as a constable and then moved to Ekuvukeni, Weenen, Matimatolo and Greytown before finally settling in Ladysmith as part of the Family Violence, Child Protection & Sexual Offences Unit (FCS).
Colonel Albert Mbhele spoke on behalf of the SAPS at the funeral, passing their condolences to the family of the deceased. Col Mbhele only had good things to say about WO Dube, saying that he was always early for work and always went out of his way to help the community.
WO Dube was awarded two medals: one for 20 years of loyal service and the other a Soccer World Cup support medal.
He leaves behind his wife and five children.
