Play parks in suburbs to be upgraded

According to Vish Govender from the Department of Sports and Recreation, the municipality started focusing on the improvement of play parks in 2012

Two play parks are expected to be upgraded this year.

One is situated on FW Beyers Avenue in Barry Hertzog Park and the second on Kudu Avenue, in Hutten Heights.

While several play parks are in a seemingly poor condition, the above mentioned parks will be joining the ranks of the upgraded Crawford Street Park and Amanath Centre park to be a places for children and adults alike to unwind and enjoy the outdoors.

According to Vish Govender from the Department of Sports and Recreation, the municipality started focusing on the improvement of play parks in 2012. Since then, five parks were targeted a year and included some situated in previously disadvantaged areas. “Next year, we will be moving onto Hibiscus Street park, Privet Street and Lennoxton,” Mr Govender informed.

He said he had requested that all play equipment beyond repair be removed.

Regarding adults abusing play parks for drinking or other improper behaviour, Mr Govender advised residents to report the social ills of vandalism and loiterers to relevant authorities.
