Unsightly and overgrown grass verges take over sidewalks

Overgrown and unsightly grass verges are reaching new heights and have also generated a number of concerns amongst residents. The overgrown grass verges give the town an unappealing look and it has also become worrying for many residents as schools have reopened and their children will be taking short-cuts while walking to school. Not only are those short-cut paths overgrown, parents also fear that there may be snakes lurking in the long grass. One other concern for them was that many of the verges could act as a hiding spot for criminals. “We have a programme of grass cutting, which we are following. Due to rainfall we are under pressure but we are trying the best we can to ensure grass is cut. We do have a well-structured system of dealing with reported complaints,” said Umtshezi Municipal Manager Nonhlanhla Njoko.
