Protest over appointment of new uThukela deputy mayor
According to the NFP, the man who was voted in has not been given the position and it has instead been filled by someone else
National Freedom Party (NFP) supporters staged a protest at the uThukela offices on Friday regarding the new appointment of a deputy mayor at uThukela District Municipality.
The NFP held internal elections to replace the deputy mayor who was killed in a tavern in Bergville recently, as he was a member of the party. However, according to the NFP, the man who was voted in has not been given the position and it has instead been filled by someone else. Upset supporters staged the protest to show their discontent with what has taken place and to demand that the original candidate be given his rightful position.
The issue has been taken up with the National Executive Council (NEC) of the NFP, where a resolution has been put forward to replace the deputy mayor again. A visible presence of police and security guards kept the large crowd of NFP supporters under control.
