Harding Street woes to be addressed
Ashok Anandhaw, Protection Services Chief Traffic Officer, confirmed the municipal staff had ample parking space in Kenyon Arcade, giving them no reason to park in front of businesses in Harding Street.
Municipal staff who park in Harding Street parking bays might become a thing of the past.
This comes after business owners claimed they were experiencing a decrease in clientèle because clients couldn’t find parking.
Ashok Anandhaw, Protection Services Chief Traffic Officer, confirmed the municipal staff had ample parking space in Kenyon Arcade, giving them no reason to park in front of businesses in Harding Street. “An internal communiqué will be issued to staff to compel them to utilise the parking space in question,” he said.
While business owners in Harding Street claimed they had reported the matter several times to the municipality without receiving any joy, Chief Anandhaw denied this was true. “We have occasionally placed traffic cones to reserve bays during their special events. Also, law enforcement is conducted on an ad hoc basis and offenders prosecuted,” Chief Anandhaw claimed.
