Flames in the ‘revolutionary house’ as arsonist is arrested

A blaze, which ripped through the innards of the ANC Emalahleni Regional Office last week Tuesday (February 17), has been deemed by police as alleged arson.

According to police reports and sources, evidence within the building suggest an arson attempt. This evidence was further linked to one suspect in Dannhauser, who checked into the hospital for the treatment of burn wounds.

In a statement released by police spokesperson, Captain Shooz Magudulela, the suspect has since been arrested on suspicion of being the alleged arsonist.

The regional party have since condemned the burning of its offices.

“Harsh actions must be taken against the perpetrators of this unfortunate incident,” said Regional Spokesperson, Mafika Mndebele. He labelled the investigation as still being in its ’embryonic stage’, but called for law enforcement agencies to thoroughly investigate the matter.

“The regional leadership will not tolerate anarchy and vandalism of its properties by rogue elements,” Mr Mndebele added. He said the party was extremely worried, since the incident occurred following numerous break-ins at the Youth League officers on the same premises.

“We are confident the state institutions will move with speed to find and arrest all perpetrators, and we therefore call upon all party structures to allow law enforcement agencies to do their work without prejudice. We also urge people to come forward with information that could assist the investigation.”

Confidential informants have provided this publication with information they believe is the root cause for the arson.

“There is more than meets the eye with this case. Someone was allegedly attempting to hide something, hence the fire,” claimed the source.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
