Don’t fall for ‘municipal jobs for money’ scam
Anyone who comes across any person offering jobs at the municipality at a fee should contact the police
Emnambithi/Ladysmith Municipality wishes to point out that no vacancies or jobs are offered to the community at a fee. No jobs are for sale and if any member of the community comes across a situation of this nature, please inform the SAPS as soon as possible.
This after a Pietermaritzburg woman recently fell victim to a scam in which a man calling himself Mr Ntuli claimed he worked for Emnambithi/Ladysmith Municipality.
‘Ntuli’ apparently promised her and her nephew positions as drivers, and that they would have to pay R3500 each.
The victim says she came all the way from Pietermaritzburg on Tuesday, February 24, with her nephew after her husband had spoken to ‘NtuIi’, who offered his assistance.
Her husband luckily did a background check on the con-man and found out that there was no such person and no such driver vacancies at the municipality. The scam artist is believed to drive a Toyota bakkie with GP registration. Anyone who comes across ‘Ntuli’ or any other person offering jobs at the municipality at a fee should contact the police.
Emnambithi/Ladysmith Municipality advertises vacancies, and proper recruitment processes are followed. No municipal employee is eligible to receive money in the form of a bribe in return for offering a vacancy / job.
