He’s just doing his job

"No action will be taken against Mr Motsoeneng as he was doing his job."

A reader driving behind Head of Traffic Daniel Motsoeneng on Thursday morning wondered why the traffic officer was not wearing a helmet whilst riding a motorcycle. He snapped a photo and submitted it to the Estcourt News, so that an explanation could be sought from Umtshezi Municipality.

Municipal Manager Nonhlanhla Njoko responded as follows: “Mr Motsoeneng had impounded the bike that was illegally driven by a youngster who did not have a bike licence and also did not wear a helmet.

“According to the terms of the National Road Traffic Act 93/96 the property of the person arrested must be safe, therefore Mr Motsoeneng had to take the scooter to a place of safety. “No action will be taken against Mr Motsoeneng as he was doing his job.”
