Clearing up the waste on Draper Street

A bulk refuse bin was allocated to Draper Street after complaints by a resident that refuse was being discarded alongside the road.

“When the complaint was lodged with me, the municipality went out and cleaned the area,” Cllr Matthew Shunmugam said.

With the area cleared of litter, Cllr Shunmugam reminded the community that the bulk bin was strictly for the garden refuse and not for domestic refuse.

“There are specific days assigned for the removal of domestic refuse. The community pays for this service and are urged to make use of it,” he said.

Cllr Shunmugam said another common problem was that residents were putting their refuse bags on the street before the removal day. “These refuse bags are dumped along the road, dogs rip them apart and the area gets littered.”

Encouraging the community to look after their area, Cllr Shunmugam said the bulk refuse bin would be removed if it was abused by the community.
