Van der Bijl Street to turn into the barnyard
According to an unofficial source, the kraal is being built by a municipal employee, although it is unclear who the employee was.
A kraal meant for livestock is allegedly being built in Van der Bijl Street.
Wooden posts were recently erected, seemingly to enclose a substantial plot of vacant land running alongside the Van der Bijl Street bridge.
The only things missing were fencing and cows.
According to an unofficial source, the kraal is being built by a municipal employee, although it is unclear who the employee was.
“I don’t know how, but the person got permission from the municipality. We can’t have animals roaming around,” said the source, who wished to remain anonymous.
A business owner, who wished to remain anonymous, was fuming about the development.
“When I signed up my contract, I was told I could not have any livestock and if I did get any, my contract would be forfeited,” he said, adding one could not ignore health issues caused by cows living in close proximity of businesses. “Why are the by-laws only relevant for certain people?”
The municipality was unable to comment, as Town Planning Director, Ntsiki Khathide, was on leave at the time of the article going to print.
