Cats take over hospital?
No less than six cats were strolling in and out of the ward like they belonged there
It might be argued that interaction with animals has a healing effect, but it’s pushing it a bit to have cats running around a hospital.
A patient who was admitted at Ladysmith Provincial Hospital over the weekend was shocked and disgusted to see cats in her ward. No less than six cats were strolling in and out of the ward like they belonged there, and nobody was doing anything about it.
The woman now wonders if animals are allowed in hospitals and questions how hygienic this is for patients. Some people are known to be highly allergic to cat’s hair. According to the patient, the cats looked very ill and she feared for her health due to the state of the ‘feline patients’.
“Animals should definitely not be allowed in hospitals due to contagious illnesses and viruses that can be transmitted,” said the concerned patient.
Another question on the patient’s mind is, “How are the cats getting into the wards? Are they jumping in through the windows or walking in like they own the place?”
As we all know, a hospital is a healthcare institution providing patient treatment with specialised staff and equipment.
How are patients just out of surgery and susceptible to infection going to recover when animal hair is flying all over the place, let alone whatever germs the animals are carrying around with them?
At the time of going to press, Ladysmith Provincial Hospital had not commented on this issue. Hopefully they will let the “cat out of the bag” and explain how they plan to deal with their feline problem…
