Storm water drains, a haven for trees
In several suburbs, trees were growing from storm water drains, and road surfaces were damaged by grass sprouting from it.
“It is horrible to think we pay taxes and for what?,” asked Chris de Lange, a resident.

“This is not acceptable. Nothing is worse than grass growing in the road. Roots spread and can cause further damage. What about the trees growing in the drains? What about the pipes that will be destroyed because of them?”
Mr de Lange felt it was imperative for the municipality to address the issue before it would cost more in damages than maintenance would.
Another resident who wished to remain anonymous, said she found the lack of service delivery disturbing. “Our streets used to be so clean and tidy, but it seems the municipality is more interested in its new building than the town,” she said.
The municipality was contacted for comment, but, none was forthcoming at the time of going to print.
