District municipality helps to clean up
The aim is to ensure that every municipality performs these basic functions without compromise
UThukela District Municipality recently launched a clean-up campaign under the ‘Back to Basics Campaign’.
The event took place outside the Plaza shopping complex, where uThukela Mayor Dudu Mazibuko, as well as Emnambithi/Ladysmith Mayor Vincent Madlala (host), Ukhahlamba Mayor Sibeko, Emtshezi Mayor Dlamini and Indaka Mayor Mchunu were there to say they are getting “back to basics”.
Back to basics is what Co-operative Governance & Traditional Affairs Minister Pravin Gordan has said that all municipalities should do in order to instil and encourage good governance and basic service delivery.
The concept of ‘Back to Basics’ basically sets clear benchmarks of performance in uThukela’s efforts to ensure that all municipalities perform their basic responsibilities every day without fail.
The aim is to ensure that every municipality must perform these basic functions without compromise.
At the launch of the clean-up campaign, all mayors went in with their cleaning gear, cleaning up and picking up litter in the area of the Plaza complex and where the taxis are situated.
At the event, Mayor Madlala said the municipality is committed to following and upholding the ‘Back to Basics’ concept and that he strongly condemns the violence that has been happening against foreign nationals. Emnambithi/Ladysmith Municipality was fully and clearly visible at the clean-up campaign, as executive managers also came out in support of the programme.
