Trees sprouting out of storm water drains have become no unusual sight in town.
Lennoxton, Barry Hertzog Park, Suryaville and Amajuba Park are among the most common places where shrubbery can be seen forcing its way through drains and tarmac.
Chris de Lange, a concerned resident, expressed his dismay last month about the lack of services rendered for rates paid. “This is not acceptable. Nothing is worse than grass growing in the road. Roots spread and can cause further damage. What about the trees growing in the drains? What about the pipes that will be destroyed because of them?” he asked.
Mayor, Afzul Rehman said the relevant departments were informed. “The issue will be dealt with,” he claimed.
