No water in Drividian Road
Residents have been left without water for 16 hours
Drividian Road has been hit by a succession of burst water pipes, leaving the residents without water for more than 16 hours.
One such pipe burst happened on Thursday morning outside 41 Drividian Road.
Residents contacted uThukela’s emergency numbers, with no response. They then contacted Public Safety, who also tried to contact uThukela. Workers eventually shut off the water about 4 hours later so they could work on the leak. Residents are now asking how clean water can be allowed to waste for 4 hours before action is taken by the authorities.
Residents contacted DA councillor Pieter Hurter, who reported the problem and also asked for an update. He was told who was on duty and phoned that person, but his calls were not answered. He resorted to leaving messages on the person’s phone.
16 hours have now gone by and there is still no water in the area.
According to Cllr Hurter, uThukela phoned to ask if Drividian Road is in Ladysmith. “Surely uThukela should have a map of all the roads in Ladysmith, or can they not use a Brabys telephone directory that has maps of the different areas? uThukela employees worked on the pipe on Thursday, so surely they must know where the road is?” said Cllr Hurter.
“I have asked on numerous occasions for the after-hours numbers and this request is ignored. Does uThukela not have a standby team in case of an emergency?” added Cllr Hurter.
