Fiela continues to yield successes

Since operations began from April 13 to May 11, the task team deployed in Newcastle arrested 28 suspects. According to police spokesperson, Captain Shooz Magudulela, the task team was deployed in the area by the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial office.
“We have been conducting operations which are disruptive with intention to reduce the level of crime and recover illegal items,” said Capt. Magudulela. The task team conducted activities ranging from stop and searches, to visiting liquor outlets and following up on tip-offs received from the public.
Approximately 12 arrests were made for possession of dagga, four others were for mandrax possession. Another four suspects were arrested for car jacking, two for assault Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH), two more for theft from a motor vehicle, and one person was arrested for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm.
“Three suspects were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.”
In the same time-frame, a number of items were recovered, including six stolen vehicles, seven illegal firearms and 56 okapi knives. From Thursday to Sunday last week, 11 wanted suspects and four illegal immigrants were arrested.
A number of firearms and ammunition was recovered and six people were charged with possession of dangerous weapons. “These operations will be ongoing until closed by the National Office,” concluded Mr Magudulela.
